Team History

For years, Strasburg residents Jay Neal, Butch Barnes, Frankie Conner and Mike Whittle dreamed of bringing a Valley League franchise to the town of Strasburg. In the winter of 2010 they put a plan in to action and this dream became a reality. Franchise rights were purchased from the now-defunct Faquier Gators and, in 2011, the Strasburg Express took the field for their inaugural season.

The Express ramped up quicker than anticipated. Making the playoffs in only their 2nd second year (2012) they reached the Championship Series the very next season (2013), dropping game 3 to the Staunton Braves. After losing in the 2nd round of the 2014 playoffs the Express finally broke out...winning their first Valley League Championship in 2015. While difficult to top such an accomplishment, the Express did just that in 2016 by winning the Valley League Championship for a second consecutive season. Strasburg posted a total record of 36-13 and a final ranking of #7 in the country, the highest final ranking by a VBL franchise in the past decade.

The Strasburg Express are fueled by the best fans in the Valley. This is a friendly and tight-knit community, regionally known for its passionate support of all things Strasburg. Sports are a big deal here and we hope you enjoy your stay, whether you are a player (enjoying local rock star status for two months) or a visiting family member / friend. You will find this to be a very warm, inviting place.

Many town residents can trace their local roots back to the mid-1800's. A Washington magazine once featured a story about Strasburg back in the 1950's when its population was under 2,000. The gist of the story was that people are born here, grow up, love it and never leave. After your visit, we hope you'll understand why!
